Rodney's Expertise

Rodney is Co-CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Ariel Alternatives, where he leads the investment team. He brings more than 30 years of investing and firm-building experience. Prior to Ariel, Rodney was head of private equity strategies at Black Diamond Capital Management, where he led investments across opportunistic, complex and special situations transactions. Throughout his career, he has invested across a broad range of sectors, including consumer, industrials, media, sports, healthcare and business services, focusing on differentiated opportunities where active ownership, operational engagement and creative structuring can drive value.

Previously, Rodney was a managing director at The Carlyle Group, where he served as co-head of the firm’s middle market private equity activities and helped launch and scale the Carlyle Equity Opportunity Fund. He also co-founded Pegasus Capital Advisors and played a leading role in building the firm into a multi-billion-dollar private equity platform, overseeing fundraising, investment execution and organizational growth. Over the course of his career, Rodney has executed dozens of control investments and has invested in notable companies including Beats Electronics, Carol’s Daughter, Cannondale, Air Methods and Lyman Products. He began his career as an attorney before transitioning into investing, an experience that continues to inform his approach to structuring and complex transactions. Rodney earned a BA from Franklin & Marshall College and a JD from Columbia University.
